2nd Influence: Howard Hughes Accomplishes the Impossible

For many years Americans have been trying to break records and be the best at that one talent. Howard Hughes was able to beat those records and accomplish what put Americans in shock. In the 1930s Hughes invested in an aircraft firm and began to make and test airplanes. In 1938 he flew around the world in 91 hours and later he made a plane that goes 352 mph. In 1937 he won the Harmon International trophy for his speed record. He purchased the TWA stock in 1939 where he could work on his planes. His most famous wood plane created was called Spruce Goose and could hold 750 passengers. The plane had a wingspan of 319 feet and 11 inches and flew on its only journey and got 70 feet off the ground in 1947. According to Student Resource Center-Gold Hughes was the 6th largest defense contractor in the Nation in 1979. Although Hughes had some dilemmas and road blocks in his life he still pushed to be the best and do what no American has ever done before him. He showed true passion in his work and was a role model to everyone willing to work hard to achieve their goals.
